Tonight during the historically powerful Venus Transit, the public is invited to participate in a ceremony and musical gathering to bless the waters of the Potomac, the waters of the world and the Earth. The gathering will take place at Roosevelt Island and will include live music, poetry, dance, and a celebratory drum circle at the end. See a full overview of the ritual and offerings here. Read more about the National Park here and on city seekr here!

Rosslyn is the closest metro. Here are the walking directions from the Rosslyn Metro from a friend who has done this before: "From the Rosslyn metro, walk in the direction of Key Bridge. On the corner of Lee Hwy and Lynn St. is the head of the Mt. Vernon Trail. Take that down over the pedestrian bridge to the parking lot on the other side of the GW Parkway. The bridge to TR Island is at the end of the parking lot." They will ask for volunteers to return metro riders to a station by car at the end of the night. I know I've biked there from DC before (General directions (car or bike) from NPS site - Southbound traffic: take Theodore Roosevelt Bridge to Constitution Ave. Take a right on 23rd St. and cross Memorial Bridge. Once on the bridge, bear right to return to the G.W. Parkway.)

Basic Schedule for the evening - just got this info and am passing it along!

6:00pm - Gather for smudging and flower water blessings, and prepare ourselves in body, mind and spirit to come together to offer our prayers to the Waters.

7:00pm - Ritual will open, and we will join in offerings of prayers, wisdom, song, dance, sacred poetry, and drumming.

9:00pm - Move from the pavilion on Roosevelt Island to the footbridge that is over Mother Potomac. We will light candles, gather our prayers in silence, and offer our blessed waters back into Mother Potomac so that the energy can flow onward into the Waters of the world! Then, we will move into a drumming/dancing/singing celebration on the shore of the Potomac. The event will close at 10pm.
Please bring only what you need - including a blanket/chair, a flashlight, and water. You can bring a sacred object for the altar, too, which will carry the energy of the prayers and blessings as your return home. Children are welcome, but please no pets.

If it rains...in the event of light rain, the event will go on as scheduled. If there are heavy rains and/or thunderstorms, the event will be rescheduled. Angela will make the official call, if necessary, by 4:30pm the day of the event and will post on facebook. If there is any question, please check in on the facebook invite.

Metro: Rosslyn is closest but you'll need to get a ride, take a cab or bike from there as there is no direct transit there. It's worth the trip though, a beautiful spot!
