Castles in the Air

Henry David Thoreau said it best: "If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them." This program features works that highlight development, either creative or structural. Patrons will also witness the fruits of a young artist's labors when this year's winner of the U.S. Marine Band's Annual Concerto Competition takes the stage for a solo performance.Schlesinger Concert Hall

Women Composers - Vocal & Piano Performance

Music by Alma Mahler, Kaija Saariaho, and other women composers. Presented in honor of Women's History Month. 
Note: This one says on the main NGA site that it will take place in the East Building, Concourse Auditorium and not the usual West Building location

Festival Opening Ceremony
National Cherry Blossom Festival® Opening Ceremony
Presented by National Cherry Blossom Festival
5:00pm - 6:30pm, doors 3:30pm
Note: The Opening Ceremony is a free and open to the public event, however reservations are required. Walk-ins will not be accommodated. The main stage lineup will include renowned American and international artists, uniting for one momentous production. To emphasize the global appreciation for the cherry blossom trees, the Opening Ceremony will incorporate a wide spectrum of talent and genres. Ceremonial remarks from city officials, international dignitaries, and Festival leadership will be interwoven throughout the story and complement the program.
