"Joana Vasconcelos is the most recognized and appreciated Portuguese artist of her generation. With a collection of great national and international importance, the artist offers us a vision complicit with, but simultaneously critical of contemporary society. Her creative process is based on appropriation, decontextualization and subversion of pre-existing objects and realities of everyday life. The director Joana Cunha Ferreira followed the artist for almost a year, closely following the mounting of one of her most iconic pieces, "Dorothy," a giant shoe built from hundreds of covers and pans. The film looks closely at the working process of the artist and her team, which we see at work in her studio, but it is also a portrait of Joana Vasconcelos, and her extraordinary strength and talent." (Portuguese with English subtitles).

This film presentation was made possible thanks to our collaboration with The Camões Institute – a cultural and educational institution dedicated to the promotion of Portuguese language and culture. After the screening, enjoy a discussion led by Iane Campos-Siddique, Georgetown University - Department of Spanish & Portuguese.
