PAST: Every First FRI of the Month - Group Bike Ride "Critical Mass" leaves Dupont Circle 6:30pm Casual Ride through the City, Free

"Critical Mass" Bike Ride
Every 1st Friday of the month
6:00pm gather, 6:30pm bike

I got a message from one of my readers letting me that on the first Friday of the month there is a huge bike ride that leaves from Dupont Circle around 6:30pm. The ride is a more chill, family friendly event that moves pretty slow so you don't need to be a hard core biker to join the group. They start at Dupont Circle, and usually move south towards Downtown, possibly hitting the Mall, Capital Hill, Georgetown, the Waterfront, etc... depends on who is 'leading' and each ride is unique. Of course, there's no obligation to stay with the group all the way through, you can peel off at any time, since sometimes the ride goes on for an hour or two.

Metro: Dupont Circle, meet at the circle with your bike!

  1. More than just a "family friendly" ride, Critical Mass is a nationwide phenomenon in which bicyclists turn out in force to shut down car traffic lanes during rush hour. While typically disorganized, rides can be politically charged and police presence is a possibility.

Anyone who can show up to show support for bicyclists' rights, please do.
