PAST: Happy Mother's Day! 24-hour Women's Peace Vigil by White House, Now until 1:00pm SUN, May 10th

"Mother's Day for Peace"
24-Hour Vigil in LaFayette Park
1600 Pennsylvania Ave, NW
Outside of the White House

Sat, May 9th from 1:00pm -
Sunday, May 10th at 1:00pm

I post this for all People, especially Mom's, who believe that Peace is Possible... I don't normally post political things but I believe that this action is worth noting, especially since two of my poems were inspired by Code Pink. On a poetic note, I will say that I believe that having the ability to give life is amazing thing that women realize, and that as creators of life we realize that destruction is not our highest nature.

About the event: From dozens of cities and towns around the world, mothers, veterans, nurses, students, lawyers and businesswomen will convene this for a 24-hour vigil to honor women living under occupation worldwide. On Sunday, CodePink will host a powerful interfaith service, creative actions and more. All events are inspired by abolitionist Julia Ward Howe's Mother's Day Peace Proclamation. Howe, horrified by the devastation of the Civil War and the death of America's men, wrote the Proclamation to call on America's women to gather together to "promote the alliance of the different nationalities, the amicable settlement of international questions, the great and general interests of peace.”

This vigil is hosted by CodePink and co-sponsored by the National Organization of Women, MADRE, the Feminist Peace Network and nearly 34 other human rights organizations. You can learn more at Mothers Day for Peace and see a full schedule of events on CodePink's site here.
